Information We Collect

• Account and profile information (e.g., name, email, profile details, organization memberships, SDG goals).
• Activities you create in-app (e.g., actions, activities, trips, connections, organization memberships).
• Device and app information when you voluntarily submit a bug report (e.g., app version, OS version, device model) to help diagnose issues.

How We Use Information

• To provide core features, such as carbon tracking, SDG/action/activity management, and organization functionality.
• To power the Activity Feed and network features while respecting your privacy preferences (see "Activity Privacy and Feed Visibility").
• To provide notifications or communications you opt into.
• To improve reliability and troubleshoot issues (e.g., via submitted bug reports).

Activity Privacy and Feed Visibility

The app gives you granular control over how your activities appear to others. You can set a default privacy level and decide which activity types are shared. These settings are stored securely and are applied when the feed is assembled for other users.

Your settings include:

• Default activity privacy: Private, Connections Only, or Public.
• Per‑type sharing toggles, including: Profile Updates, New Connections, SDG Progress/Activities, Travel Activities, and Organization Activities.

When someone views the feed:

• If your default is Private, your activities are hidden from others.
• If your default is Connections, your activities are visible to your connections.
• If your default is Public, your activities are visible to all users.
• Additionally, if you turn off sharing for a specific activity type, that type is not shown to others regardless of your default privacy.

You can change these controls at any time in the app under More → Activity Privacy Settings. Changes take effect for subsequent feed refreshes.

Storage and Processing

• We use Supabase as our backend platform to store and process data.
• Our Supabase instance is hosted on AWS in Canada (data residency in Canada).
• Data is encrypted in transit and at rest according to Supabase policies.
• Row Level Security (RLS) and access policies may be applied to protect your data.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data, subject to legal or compliance obligations.

Your Choices and Rights

• Access and update your profile information within the app.
• Adjust Activity Privacy Settings (default privacy and per‑type sharing).
• Request data export or deletion by contacting us (see Contact section).

Third‑Party Services

The app may integrate with third‑party services to provide features (e.g., maps, messaging, or notifications). Your use of those features may be subject to the respective third‑party terms and privacy policies.

Location Data Usage (Mobile App Only)

The SDG Network mobile application (iOS and Android) collects location data to provide accurate carbon footprint tracking for your travel activities. This feature is essential to our core mission of helping you measure and reduce your environmental impact.

How we use your location:

• To calculate the distance traveled during trips and estimate the associated carbon emissions based on your mode of transportation.
• To track your travel route in real-time while you are actively recording a trip.
• To continue tracking your trip in the background if you navigate away from the trip screen or minimize the app, ensuring accurate distance measurements.

Important details:

• Location tracking only occurs when you actively start a trip within the app.
• Background location access is used solely to maintain trip tracking accuracy when the app is not in the foreground.
• You can stop location tracking at any time by ending your trip in the app.
• Location data is processed to calculate distances and emissions; we do not sell or share your precise location data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
• The web version of our application does not collect or use location data.

You can manage location permissions for the SDG Network app through your device's system settings at any time. Disabling location access will prevent the app from tracking trips and calculating travel-related carbon emissions.

Children's Privacy

SDG Network is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take action.
